At the start of The Return of Betty Snickerdoodle, we find out that Bea loves the game show “The Price Is Right” and watches it religiously. People sometimes ask me why–and whether I like the show as much as Bea does.

I think Bea loves the show for a few reasons. Of course, the ex-poker player in her likes the strategy. (I can easily picture her yelling, “bid $1!” at the television!)

But I also think watching the show every day–as she did at the start of the series, anyway–represents freedom to Bea. She can do whatever she wants, even if that means chain-smoking, eating pizza, and watching her favorite game show every morning. (Of course, we wise observers know that she’s also in a bit of a rut ….)

Do I love the show as much as Bea does? You know … I kind of do. What’s not to love? It’s so much fun to see the contestants enjoy themselves. And you can celebrate with them when they win big! (Or yell at the television when they bid incorrectly.) Unlike Bea, though, I don’t get to watch every day.

What about you? Do you enjoy “The Price Is Right”?
